Periodontitis cannot be “cured” – it must be controlled.

This is a chronic disease that affects the gums, bone, and ligaments of the teeth. It’s becoming more common every year—we’re diagnosing periodontitis in patients as young as 20. The problem isn’t just hygiene.

This is often a reflection of internal imbalances—hormonal, immune, or endocrine. That’s why at Cheese Dental we don’t “treat gums”—we stabilize the entire body.

How do you know if you may have periodontitis?

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gums and tissues that support the teeth. If left untreated, the inflammation gradually destroys the bone, causing teeth to become loose and potentially lost, even without decay.

You should see a dentist if you notice:
- bleeding gums when brushing
- swelling, redness, or tenderness of the gums
- bad breath
- exposed tooth necks
- loose teeth or a feeling that they are spreading apart

Treatment is necessary for anyone who wants to preserve their natural teeth, as well as for patients preparing for orthodontic treatment, implants, or dentures. Healthy teeth are the foundation of any high-quality dental outcome.

How do we diagnose periodontitis?

CT

– Bone assessment
– Pocket depth
– Tooth mobility

Tests

– Sugar/hormones
– Thyroid gland
– Anemia/deficiencies
– Immune indicators

Multidisciplinary approach

– Family doctor
– Endocrinologist
– Gynecologist
– Hematologist

Stages of treatment

01

Professional cleaning

– Closed/open curettage
– Pocket treatment
– Inflammation reduction
– Laser or medicated irriga-
tion

02

Orthodontics (if necessary)

– Misaligned teeth = plaque accumulation areas
– Braces not only provide aesthetic benefits but also functional stability for teeth.
– We often use orthodontic devices instead of splinting.

03

Teamwork

– Periodontist
– Orthodontist
– Surgeon
– General Practitioner
– If necessary – Endocrinologist, Hematologist, or Family Physician

Important information about tooth extraction

Our goal is to maintain maximum support, stabilize the situation, and build a strategic solution, rather than “tear everything apart.”

Periodontal patients should not have their teeth extracted without a reason.

There is a risk of a domino effect:
- if one tooth is removed
- support is reduced
- other teeth begin to shift
- bone loss accelerates.

How is the treatment carried out?

1 – Diagnosis of gums

Review, periodontal measurements (pockets), photos, and, if necessary, X-rays/CT scans. The result is a clear treatment plan.

2 – Professional cleaning and inflammation relief

Ultrasound + Air Flow + subgingival cleaning. The goal is to remove plaque/tartar and reduce bleeding.

3 - Deep periodontal treatment

Closed root curettage/scaling (as indicated), local therapy, and sensitivity control. The goal is to stop tissue destruction.

4 – Support of the result (periodontal support)

Personalized hygiene at home + a schedule of professional cleanings every 3-6 months. The goal is to prevent periodontitis from returning.

Patient Stories

Alexandra

Alexandra came to us for a tooth extraction and was genuinely surprised that an implant could be placed immediately. No long waiting periods, no multiple stages. In just one visit, the damaged tooth was removed and the implant was placed. Fast. Gentle. Completely painless. Alexandra admitted she didn’t expect modern dentistry to be this comfortable. Sometimes the fear is worse than the procedure itself 😉

Anna

Anna had a professional whitening treatment at our clinic — and her smile truly transformed. Bright. Fresh. Beautiful. Anna lives in Poland, so comfort and timing were essential. She came to our clinic, completed the in-office whitening in just one day, then returned home and continued the at-home whitening stage in Poland. Sometimes you don’t need complex treatment. Sometimes the right whitening is all it takes — no matter where you live.

Anna

"When you smile, it's clear you're happy." ✨ Our patient Anna shared her story, and every word rings true for many. She used to think everything was fine with her smile. But one look at old photos revealed it: not so. Did you think long and hard? No! I made a quick decision. She came for a consultation, and we developed a clear treatment plan. Implants, 360° veneers, and a customized protocol—step by step, we moved toward our goal. And you know what changed the most? Not just her smile. Her smile itself changed: it became open, confident, and radiant. When you restore your smile, you restore your joy in life.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Periodontitis is a chronic disease, but it can be stopped and stabilized. With proper treatment and regular care, inflammation is controlled and gum tissue is preserved.
The number of visits is determined individually depending on the condition of the gums and the stage of inflammation. In most cases, the active phase includes 1–2 professional cleanings, after which the patient switches to maintenance visits every 3–6 months to maintain stable results.
In most cases, yes. In the early and middle stages, conservative treatments are effective. Surgical treatment is used only when clearly indicated.
Braces are possible for periodontitis, but only after the gums have stabilized. First, the inflammation must be reduced and the periodontitis brought to a manageable stage. Only then can orthodontic treatment be safe and effective. In some cases, braces even help improve oral hygiene and distribute the load on the teeth, but the decision is always made individually, jointly by the periodontist and orthodontist.
Treatment is necessary for patients with bleeding, unpleasant odor, exposed necks or tooth mobility, as well as before implantation, orthodontic treatment or prosthetics.
