Methods of treatment of bruxism in our clinic:
1. Botulinum therapy (botox for bruxism)
This is a modern and one of the most effective methods of treatment of bruxism. The drug is injected into the chewing muscles (m. masseter, if necessary - m. temporalis), reducing their excessive activity. As a result, night grinding disappears, pain decreases, the jaw relaxes and active grinding of the teeth stops.
2. Treatment with individual caps
Caps are made individually and protect the teeth from grinding during sleep. They do not eliminate the cause of bruxism, but are an effective protective method, especially in mild forms or as an addition to botulinum therapy.
Treatment begins with a consultation with a dentist with higher medical education. The doctor assesses the complaints, the degree of jaw clenching, tooth abrasion, tension of the masticatory muscles, if necessary, analyzes the bite and the condition of the temporomandibular joint. The feasibility of botulinum therapy and the amount of the drug are determined.
2. Preparation for the procedure
No special preparation or tests are required in most cases. The procedure is safe and is performed on an outpatient basis. In the absence of contraindications, treatment is possible on the day of the consultation.
Botulinum toxin is injected into the masseter muscle (m. masseter), and if indicated, also into the temporal muscle (m. temporalis). The doctor works pointwise, injecting the drug into the center and key areas of the muscles responsible for excessive contraction. The procedure does not take long and is well tolerated.
The patient feels the first changes after 5–7 days, and the full effect is formed within 10–14 days. Tension decreases, grinding disappears, pain is relieved and active grinding of the teeth stops.
A follow-up examination is performed after 10–14 days. If necessary, the doctor may perform additional correction or inject a small amount of the drug to achieve optimal results.
The results of botulinum therapy for bruxism last for an average of 4–6 months. After that, the procedure can be safely repeated on the recommendation of a doctor.

We are here to help
Modern dentistry has long gone beyond individual procedures. To obtain a stable, long-lasting and aesthetically correct result, treatment must be comprehensive. This is especially true in cases where the patient is planning orthodontic or orthopedic treatment and at the same time has bruxism.
Bruxism is uncontrolled clenching of the jaws and grinding of the teeth, which often goes unnoticed. But it can cause tooth wear, joint overload, pain, as well as damage to braces, aligners, veneers and crowns. Therefore, in the modern approach, bruxism is never treated separately – it is considered as part of the patient’s overall dental condition.
During orthodontic treatment (braces, aligners), it is important that the chewing muscles and joints work stably. Active bruxism can slow down the movement of the teeth, cause discomfort and negatively affect the result. In such cases, bruxism treatment helps relieve muscle tension and create the right conditions for bite correction.
Even more critical is bruxism before orthopedic treatment – the installation of veneers, crowns or complete dentures. Without control of chewing pressure, even the highest quality designs can be overloaded. That is why bruxism treatment is often a mandatory preparatory stage before prosthetics in order to preserve a new smile for years.
In our clinic, we work as a team. An orthodontist, an orthopedist and a doctor who treats bruxism jointly plan treatment, taking into account the bite, the condition of the muscles, joints and the future result. Modern methods are used to control bruxism – individual mouthguards or botulinum therapy, depending on the clinical situation.
Such a comprehensive approach allows not only to align the teeth or restore their shape, but also to ensure functional stability, comfort and long-term results. This is how a correct, healthy, and harmonious smile is formed — without overload and the risk of complications in the future.
